If you are a comic fan then you have to have this in your collection. Not only is 'All Star' one of the most important comics ever written, it is also a damn good read, well presented by DC in this gorgeous collected edition.

So why is it so important, I hear you ask ? ( Even if I don't, I'm going to tell you ) . 'All-Star Comics' no.3 is the first ever team up comic, a leap of imagination on the part of Gardener Fox second only to Siegal and Shuster's introduction of Superman. They are all hear, The Flash, Green Lantern, The Spectre, Hourman, Doctor Fate et al. Even the Red Tornado gets a quick cameo. Best of all, every hero's individual tale is written and drawn by their original creative team - so you get Jerry Siegal's darkly fearful Spectre tale sitting alongside The Flash's breezy, cheerful liitle tale of crime busting.

Buy this, and own a little bit of history - and you'll also be pleasantly entertained by a group of great writers and artists goimg through their paces.

5.0 out of 5 stars All star spectacular, 13 Aug 2008

Amongst the whole range of "Archive Editions" produced by by DC, the 11 volumes which cover the Golden Age careers of the Justice Society of America are probably the pick of the bunch. The artwork is not the greatest you'll ever see, nor is the story telling always wonderful, but these tales rise above those limitations. If Superman is the first and - in terms of the impact of the character - most important superhero, then the JSA is the most important superhero team, from whom all the rest are ultimately derived.
With the source material - for once - justifying the format, I would heartily recommend this series to any comics fan.
