Why did I write this book in 250 words or less.OK, I guess I could take this opportunity to shamelessly plug the book, but to be honest, if the "at a glance" didn't convince you, I don't know that anything I say here will do the trick. I would like to take a minute to tell you a little about why we wrote the book, and a little about the series.
First, to steal one of the lines from the book's "Introduction," no one was sitting around thinking that what Amazon needs is yet another NT Certification title on it's electronic shelves. If that was the only reason to write this book, I wouldn't have done it. But after seeing how Microsoft's exams have evolved since I took my first step towards my MCSE it was obvious that there weren't any books really geared towards the new style of questions. The memorize and report style of question that typified the Windows NT 3.51 exams I took several years ago are rapidly being phased out by scenario-based and simulation type questions. That's what this book and this series will prepare you for. In case you're curious, I did go back and take all the Windows NT 4.0 exams to stay current.
The information in this book is presented as scenarios and graphical simulations, getting as close to the test environment (without copying exam questions) as I could manage and keep it on paper.
One other thing that you may have noticed as well is that there are an awful lot of overlapping topics in the Windows NT Server and Windows NT Server in the Enterprise exams. Well, we noticed that too, and decided combined exam preparation for the two exams would be a good idea. Besides, it saves you from paying for two books.
So I would encourage you to prepare for the exam in the way you find most comfortable. Get one of those 600 page encyclopedias if that's what works for you, and take as many practice tests as you can find. And if you want to get a good grounding in analyzing real world scenarios and walk through some simulated answers, pick up a copy of this book!
