Product Description

Product Description
The table saw is perhaps the most vital machine in a woodworker's shop, and often the first item bought. This book explains how to make the most of this essential tool with the help of photographs and diagrams. The author shows readers what to look for when choosing a table saw and its accessories, how to set it up and adjust and maintain it so that it runs safely and efficiently. He reviews the basic techniques including crosscutting and ripping, and covers special problems such as how to handle oversized and undersized stock. By following the step-by-step instructions, readers can learn how to produce precise, repeatable joints and parts and how to build practical jigs and fixtures to improve the safety of your work.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you read only one book on table saws, this should be it!, 26 April 1999
By A Customer
Kelly Mehler is a master builder of fine, museum quality furniture. He has been working wood for 27 years, and his one-of-a-kind pieces are collectors items. As a teacher, he is remendously generous with his talents and his help to the amateur woodworker, and this book is a classic example of his style: no-frills, easy-to understand, and non-threatening. This book gives a sense that you can do the task, no matter how daunted you are by it. It is as thorough and well-produced as his two videos, which I am constantly reviewing for technique and procedural questions. I'm telling you, this is the book to buy if you want THE handbook on table saw use, and the videos will become your touchtones for reference and encouragement. Above all else, Mehler respects and loves wood and woodworking, and it comes through in his work, the pieces he builds, the classes he teaches, the videos, and this book. YOU CAN'T MISS WITH THIS ONE.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Table Saw Book, 1 Jul 2004
This review is from: The Table Saw Book (Paperback)
Great book for beginners (like me) to intermediates. Good detail, lots of pictures. American texts refer to european saws and their safety features regularly. Loads of techniques / ideas.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too much mechanics; to little useage, 9 Dec 2007

This review is from: The Table Saw Book (Paperback)
I was disappointed mainly because i was looking for HOW TO USE with tips, jigs etc. Yes it does have some of this but only about 35% - the rest is all about the different types; set up etc.
Even the how to use is not really comprehensive and i found myself simply experimenting to achieve the best way - maybe that was a good thing!
