Product Description

Review

The work of Charles Burns is a vision that's both horrifying and hilariously funny, and which quite..... human! --R. Crumb

Synopsis

Following El Borbah and Big Baby in this exclusive reprinting of Burns's lifelong work, Skin Deep includes Burns' popular and perhaps most famous character, Dog Boy, which became a live action segment on MTV's Liquid Television series in 1991. Featuring artwork that is highly influenced by 1950s graphic art and an endless stream of b-grade horror films, these strips look for a kernel of darkness at the heart of popular culture and society in quintessential Burns fashion. This exclusive edition also features new covers and endpapers, new illustrations from his sketchbook, and covers and illustrations from foreign editions of his work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sick and twisted Twilight Zone-style comic., 6 Dec 2001
By A Customer
This brilliantly executed comic book features three sick and twisted Twilight Zone-style tales of doomed love, which are both gut-churningly funny and mind-blowingly weird. Charles Burns' meticulously inked monochrome drawings look almost like wooduts, and linger long in the memory. Burns has a highly individual and instantly recognisable style, and is best known for his commercially and critically succesful comic book serial "Black Hole."
The hilarious first story in "Skin Deep" features Dog Boy, who you might remember from when he was featured in BBC2's animated TV show "Liquid Television."
Iggy Pop is a fan of this, so it must be good, right?
