The book sheds light on the differences between American and Russian Mentality, and therefore may be of interest to social psychologists and political scientists and analysts. Following the break up of the Soviet Union, Russian society is in transition and so is Russian Psychotherapy. In this book twelve eminent Psychologists discuss the changes in Russian psychology since Carl Rogers' seminal visit to the USSR in 1986. In the process they evaluate the effect of American methods of psychotherapy on Russian therapies in view of the differences between American and Russian mentalities. They discuss the roles of Russian academic, cultural, and literary traditions as well as Russian Orthodoxy in shaping those emerging therapies.

I am interested in the topic of the difference that culture makes in our perceptions and ways of thinking. I hesitated buying this book, however, because I thought, frankly, it would be too scholarly. But I bought it anyway and I'm glad I did. It turned out to be an intersting read -- profound but not too academic. The book is in the interview format and the psychologists kept me fascinated with their original insights and theories.
