5.0 out of 5 stars Sunny summery read with slightly macabre undertones, 2 July 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Voices in Summer (Paperback)
Laura, Alec's adoring but rather timid second wife goes to convalesce with Alec's family in a large house in Cornwall. Once there she gains confidence but menacing events start to occur which lead to a minor tragedy. The book culminates in the reunion of Alec and the daughter he has not seen since she was a child, and unmasks the unsuspected madness of a family friend. The book is a rivetting read and an absolute must for anyone who enjoyed reading September.

4.0 out of 5 stars A soothing read, 30 Jan 2007
This review is from: Voices in Summer (Paperback)
I like Rosamund Pilcher when I need a comfort read; no effort demanded from me to think. She never fails. This was a little predictable but the characters were nice people, apart from Sylvie, and life-like. This is Pilcher's strength - that she provides the reader with a credible story without a protracted plot. The characters would all have been nice to have to dinner; perhaps not poor May or neurotic Sylvie. No-one would have rocked the boat and all would have been polite and appreciative. If you have a lazy afternoon to while away this is the book to open and simply enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another good read from a trusted friend, 5 Nov 2002

I discovered this title after having read all of Rosamunde Pilcher's other novels. Once again she has built an involving story from believable and interesting characters, real situations and charming locations. I have begun to notice a pattern with some of her novels and readers may notice a similarity to "Winter Solstice" - the convergence of the main characters from all over the world under the one roof, the history of some kind of tragedy in some of their lives, and the uncanny ability of strangers to fall in love after only a few days. This is still a lovely story and the characters linger in your mind long after you've turned the last page.
