Creativity is a difficult subject and a difficult challenge. Simply to think in a new way is often far beyond what most of us are willing to risk. Its so easy to be comfortable with the platitudes and hackneyed "think out of the box," "push the envelope" phrases that we forget that the only thing that counts is courage and action. Taking a new action is the only manifestation of your creativity.
I wrote Rousing Creativity because I see creativity as a process. Simply to encourage people to "think outside the box" does not provide the tools to do so. Without a personal foundation that allows and encourages us to push that envelope, we wont. We may a couple of times, but because our first attempts seldom yield fruit or are met with resistance, we retreat back to what has worked in the past. The envelope remains where it was and we have learned never to push again. Thats not much of a journey, is it?
It doesnt have to be that way. Rousing Creativity takes you from the very basic personal and philosophical reason to be creative all the way to the point where you present your hotshot new idea so it will be accepted. In between these two ends, I explain how to set-up and run a creative group session, how to be a member of a group, how to find new ideas, how to turn all this into an action plan, and how to discover the holes that plague the ushering in of anything new. In short, from start to finish. To the best of my knowledge, this is the only book that tackles this while being short enough to make it accessible and understandable. The proof of that is in your reading.
Rousing Creativity was fun to think about and fun to write. Always believe there is a vast amount of creativity locked up in you if you just find the key and the courage to let it out. Go for it, life is short!
