5.0 out of 5 stars As close as you can get without dropping in yourself, 25 Aug 1999
By A Customer
The stories that comprise this book cover a variety of eras, locations, and players in the arena of big wave surfing. For anyone who wants to know more about the obession of those who commit themselves down the face of monsterous, capably murderous waves, and go beyond that virtually feeling the air and water rushing around you in the midst of ocean mayhem, this book will deliver. An awesome read.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent surf book with an extremely adhesive cover!!, 6 Oct 2006
By Grunger (Cornwall) - See all my reviews
'Unputdownable' is frequently used to describe books, but this is definitely the best 'surf' book I have read in a long time. A Real 'boys own' adventure book that will leave you at times amped and gagging to get out in the water, truly scared and perhaps a little reluctant to surf for a while, but also genuinely moving at times by the shear emotional gravity and darkness of some of the stories (particularly the description of the surf session that led to the first drowning at Waimea).
On the whole a little more edge to these stories than stories in other similar books on the market ('Surfing's Greatest Misadventures') and more action packed than the standard surfing biographies, which even the most interesting (Rabbit Bartholmew's, and Michael Peterson's) can feel rather pedestrian in pace at times. An excellent book

5.0 out of 5 stars My surfbum can't keep his eyes off it!, 25 Sep 2001
I bought my boyfriend this book as he isn't much of a reader, but he adores surfing!
Lets just say, he has never read a whole book until now! He couldn't keep his eyes off it! He takes it everywhere! Let's just say I wish I hadn't bothered! He prefers to take that book to bed than me!! Come on... the book must be good then!
