4.0 out of 5 stars Beyond whitewater and into the heads of the river runners., 5 Sep 2000
On the surface the book is another collection of whitewater tales and doesn't disappoint with dramatic accounts of major descents in all manner of conditions and crafts, though mainly rafts. What makes it so compelling, however, is the way most of these accounts go beyond the mere description of the action on the river and into the heads and emotions of the participants.

It may not have the quirky Humour of Whit Deschner's books (although he did contribute to this collection) and it's a little less wide ranging and more centred around big volume US rafting than Dave Manby's anthology, but it's a great set of stories none the less and well worth a read.
