In an era of increased public awareness that gay men and lesbians serve in the U.S. military, knowledge remains scant of what their sex and social lives are really like. Barrack Buddies and Soldier Lovers challenges assumptions and stereotypes of gay (and straight) men in the military from conversations with several very different men serving in the military. These revealing interviews with 16 GIs, all in their twenties, share the stories of gay life and sex in the armed forces. None of these men have made any headlines, but each has, in his own way, developed a unique personal strategy for life as a gay or bisexual male inside the U.S. military today. This book is a look around at current events in gay military circles from the eyes of these gay or bisexual military men, all of whom were stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, during the 1990s.

This book not only lets you see the lives of REAL gay men in the military, it's also a look at this whole network of young soldiers. It's amazing how different these GIs are from each other, all they really have in common is that they like men. Except some of them are more "bi-curious" I guess. It's a whole different world from the gay scene. And I couldnt believe how blunt and open these guys are! Oh yeah, it's damn sexy reading too.

i cannot believe how bored i was reading this book. i gained very little insight into what it means to be gay in the military.

the men in the story mostly knew each other, and sometimes displayed this catty attitude toward each other and the interviewee.
