This is one of the best books in existence today on Buddhist meditation. It is a commentary on a text by the 19th century Tibetan scholar Jamgon Kongtrul, and it focuses on the practices of shamatha (tranquility) and vipashyana (insight). These two ways of meditation are the backbone of all Buddhist traditions, but here they are approached from the viewpoint of the Tibetan vajrayana tradition. Through his ability to make complicated matters easy to understand, Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche ranks amongst the best teachers of Tibetan Buddhism today, and for any practitioner of meditation his books are well worth reading.
