Synopsis
Tibetan Buddhist teachings on death.
From the Author
Buddhist mystisicm on embracing life and death .The Tibetans, inspired by the life and teachings of the Buddha, developed a sophisticated and profound approach to living and dying. For them life and death are two sides of the same coin; we cannot hold or understand one without simultaneously holding and understanding the other. Their tradition for developing this integrated vision involves philosophical training, meditation practice, tantric ritual and inner yoga.
In this book I draw from nine important Tibetan works by early Dalai Lamas, as well as their gurus and disciples, and circle through the various strata of Tibetan mystical thinking in order to extract the essence of their insight. The emphasis is on what Tibetan Buddhism has to offer the modern world, and on how this can help heal the spiritual wounds that have arisen from the death phobias that characterize contemporary society.
