(REAL NAME)
First off this book is so easy to read.

The depth/scope of the book is superb, it deals with the many aspects of trauma and addiction but in a straight forward way.

The author makes a clear link between trauma and addiction. If you are an addict as an adult there is a strong chance you suffered some form of trauma as a child.

It is refreshing how Dayton challenges conventional ideas about trauma. For instance the most prevalent notion of trauma is based upon severe life experiences such as being sexually abused or suffering post war syndrome.

Dayton refines the concept of trauma and shows concisely and clearly how childhood trauma and trauma in general is far more subtle. From this perspective there are many people who have suffered traumatic life experiences and do not even realise they have.

The book looks at the physical, emotional and social consequences of traumatic experiences that lead to addiction. Included is a straight forward easy to read explanation of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.

Amongst many other areas explored Dayton shows why traumatic experiences often defy words, and how emotions related to trauma and PTSD are stored in the body's cells.

As an addict myself I found this book a total revelation. It has helped me gain a greater understanding of my childhood and adult life as an addict. It also emphasised the need to break certain behavioural patterns and the need for adequate therapy.

Overall this book is an absolute must for anyone who is an addict or anyone wanting to know more about the causes of addiction.
