4.0 out of 5 stars An intellectual Approach, 3 Dec 2003
By A Customer
This book is perhaps aimed more at the mental health practitioner than the man in the street. It takes a clear, blow-by-blow approach at unravelling the whole subject of co-dependence, and encompasses the development of this area historically, diagnoses, treatments and so on, creating a very complete work. I would recommend it as a "self help" book with the proviso that it will take a little effort to read. Unfortunately, the diagrams do little to illuminate the subject matter!

I like the title, which tells a lot about the content of the book. Much of the discussion on co-dependence indeed focuses on issues that are central to the human condition and are thought provoking. It's a hood-up look at what the human condition is all about, in psychological terms. The issues discussed are so widespread, that it's not so much a question of what is "wrong" with a person, as how a person might better themselves, how they may become a more complete and well integrated whole.
