5.0 out of 5 stars A stunningly simple story of pride and friendship., 20 Jul 2000
By A Customer
The Rainbow Fish has been on our bookshelf for at least 2 years and is still a favourite with my children. It's stunning illustrations complement the simple story of a vain fish with no friends who finds that sharing his silver scales leads to happiness. It's moral is easy for small children to understand and discuss. I know it will be a favourite of ours for years to come.

4.0 out of 5 stars A tale with a difference, 30 Dec 2007
By ABCeDar - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
This review is from: The Rainbow Fish (Paperback)
`The Rainbow Fish is an international bestseller and a modern classic.
Eye-catching foil stamping, glittering on every page, offers instant child appeal, but it is the universal message at the heart of this simple story about a beautiful fish who learns to make friends by sharing his most prized possessions that give this book its lasting value.'

A story predominantly aimed at pre-schoolers, with mixed views on its message, but still a favourite in the reading corner for its `glittering' format.
I have seen it as the `source book' for many a book corner project with the children's own ideas of what the book means to them......usually some glitter and a bit of sparkly foil!
This 2007/NorthSouth Books paperback version is no exception, retaining that original unique format with 48 high quality pages, in the popular `two-page spread' format, with sparkly scales a-glowing, even in the dark cave of the octopus:-

"I have been waiting for you," said the octopus with a deep voice.
"The waves have told me your story.
This is my advice. Give a glittering scale to each of the other fish.
You will no longer be the most beautiful fish in the sea, but you will discover how to be happy."
"I can't...." the Rainbow Fish started to say, but the octopus had already disappeared into a large cloud of ink.....'

5.0 out of 5 stars What a lovely book... highly recomended, by a normal adult, 9 Dec 2008
This will be my first attempt at a review as I wouldn't usually bother but having read this book to both my daughters several yrs ago I decided to buy it as a present for my niece. I guess I just read the reviews out of curiosity to see if people/parents had enjoyed reading this book to their children as much as I had. I was quite surprised to see some of the reviews slate this book for giving out the wrong message. Lets get things into perspective....it's eye catching and overall explains how sharing can make you happy, I loved it as did my children. If your a normal adult with well adjusted children buy the book, you will love it. If your a sandal wearing, lentil eating, tree hugging vegan (sorry if I've offended anyone) willing to take offence on someones else's behalf.... even when not asked, then please stay away you may consider this innocent children's book the work of the devil.
