"Clear writing, informative graphics, and a well thought–out focus make this the Registry book of choice for power users."—PC Magazine If you need to locate sources of problems, customize your Windows 95 computer, or just want to better understand how your computer is organized, then you need to work with the Registry. Unfortunately, the Windows 95 Registry brings the era of black–box computing back to life. And, despite all its power, flexibility, and immense capacity for causing problems. Microsoft provides little if any support for the Registry. It truly takes an expert at your side to safely navigate through the maze of HKEYS, subkeys, data strings, and programming pitfalls. The Windows 95 Registry is your guided tour into the depths of the Windows 95 Registry. Read it carefully before you open the hood, for Microsoft's own cautions about the Registry must be taken very seriously. Altering Registry information can damage your system configuration beyond the point of a simple repair by re–booting. With John Woram at your side, you can proceed with confidence and easily fix whatever Windows 95 throws your way. http://www.idgbooks.com

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good for impatient people, 17 Mar 1998
By A Customer
Book wasn't too entertaining. Was very plain and presented everything as it is like an owner's manual. But had some good information in it such as modifying the start menu, changing the window behavior, etc.. Recommended for those who like a reference book that reads like a how-to book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely add this to your collection, 12 May 1998
By A Customer
When it comes to books on the registry, I have them all. And this one is the second most often used book in the collection. It's great as a "starter" book and have a pretty decent collection of common registry entries.

Like the other registry books I've reviewed, this one doesn't go far enough on listing common entries. But for the price, it's a must buy.

A CDROM with programs and a comprehensive list of common entries would make this book a "10".

3.0 out of 5 stars General Overview of the Registry... leaves you wanting more., 22 April 1998
By A Customer
This book is great for the beginner computer user as well as anyone who has found themselves wondering what the registry does and how it is organized. The book goes through several adjustments you can make yourself to gain a bit of confidence in the registry edits.
