With profound compassion and unerring insight into the dilemmas of trauma survivors in therapy relationships, Constance J. Dalenberg examines the complexities of therapists' transference to their patients. Dr. Dalenberg draws on literature, science and the stories of survivors and therapists to offer guidance and remedies that will surely lead to more successful therapy outcomes. Lucy Berliner, MSW, Harborview Center for Sexual Assault and Traumatic Stress.I highly recommend this book for clinicians and trainees in the trauma field. It is an amazing combination of clinical wisdom, research data, and unexpected lyricism, applicable to approaches from psychodynamic to cognitive-behavioral. This is one of those books you really shouldn't miss. John Briere, PhD, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, University of Southern california School of Medicine This is an impressive book. Given the author, I expected to find what I did, which is a solid grounding in the literature an theory of her topic. I also expected, and found, her own very innovative original research on the issue of countertransference with trauma survivors. What I had not expected was that this volume would move me so powerfully. Dr. Dalenberg writes with the power of a novelist, and reading this book was a real pleasure. Her ability to disclose her own process of coming to terms with responses to trauma survivors and her ability to point out the errors made by others without coming across as judging are superb. I am thrilled to see this book, which will be very important in the field of trauma sturies and should make a valuable impact on training. Laura S. Brown, PhD, Private Practice
