Product Description

Maitland stays with the myofascial release techniques invented by Rolfing, but focuses the reader's attention on the problem of joint fixations which underlie many soft-tissue pain syndromes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent But Flawed, 5 May 2006
As a registered practitioner I would say that this is a very interesting book describing techniques that work effectively (I use many of them in my back pain clinic). However, my edition of the book contains many editing errors which could be highly confusing to the reader/student (eg lefts and rights the wrong way round etc). I wrote to the author commenting on this and he agreed and kindly sent me a (long) list of corrections which I would be happy to pass on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and small book, 20 April 2008
By Cosmic bandito (à l'etranger) - See all my reviews
Intimidated by Maitland's two excellent but big Manual Therapy books, I was looking for a book which would answer my need to learn how to manipulate without "popping", as 1. it requires years of study after my PT diploma, and 2. it is more and more obvious that such techniques are far from being safe on the long-term.

I am reading it now and find the book easy to read and informative. Most things I recognize from my PT studies and some from my internships by some PT/MT. All in all, very interesting!
(edit: meanwhile I have found better books which also include "soft" manipulation techniques. ex.: "manual physical therapy of the spine" from Olson.)
