Well researched "Must have" book for American parents, 26 Feb 2001
By A Customer
This book is well researched and well written in a style that is both informative and yet easily readable. This book is the absolutely most useful, "Must have" book for American parents. To explain: whereas in the UK vaccination is not a legal requirement, in the US it is. When a parent for whatever reason makes the informed choice not to vaccinate their child, they risk coming up against the American bureaucratic system. Thus, for US residents, a particularly useful part of the book is that which advises American parents on how to apply for medical, religious and philosophical exemptions and which of these are allowable in each of the various states. The book goes on to discuss the principals of vaccination, and each disease and its vaccine in detail. I would suggest that this book is comprehensive (i.e. covers almost everything). Just about the only thing not covered was BCG, but then so far I have not found the other books to cover BCG either. This book also came in useful when my wife was offered a position but told that she must have the Tetanus, Hepatitis B, and Polio vaccines in order to qualify. Rereading the relevant sections showed me that this particular book is as relevant to adults as to children.
