Product Description

Review

"Through the essays is an emphasis upon the dynamic interplay between allopathy and homeopathy, psyche and soma, inner and outer ecology which are resolved in the wisdom of the eternal tao. Above all else, Whitmont's life-affirming philosophy places these archetypal patterns in a historic context extending from medieval alchemists to molecular biologists and restores a sense of balance to the dynamic which is life itself."
- Kenneth R. Pelletier, Ph.D.
"Every page of this book questions our basic assumptions as to the nature of mind and matter, and challenges us to take a fresh look at old, familiar concepts. No serious student of homeopathy can afford to neglect thoughtful study of these writings."
- Mesimund Panos, M.D.

5.0 out of 5 stars Explanation of homeopathy without pseudoscience and religion, 8 Jan 2007
By Spider Woman (Scotland) - See all my reviews
This is, without question, the finest book I've yet read on homeopathy. As a homeopath, but one who puts no credence in viewing it through either the lens of religion or the pseudoscience that so many of its practitioners propose, it's enormously refreshing to read such an erudite author who comprehends the limits of our understanding and has been willing to take the step outside both religious dogma and false science.

This is a series of essays, beginning with an explanation of homeopathy's function. It goes on to tie in Jungian psychology and philosophy with what is known of what homeopathy accomplishes and what is known through physics of the nature of matter and energy. From that point, the book focuses on details of different remedies, always linking them to the concepts discussed earlier and further elaborating on them. This portion of the book is likely not of great interest to non-homeopaths, but it is certainly well worth every homeopaths' study.

For me, a person who has been healed by homeopathy in spite of it not fitting inside her sense of plausibility or possibility and who holds no faith in either religious dogma or the pseudo-science that is so often espoused by its practitioners, Psyche and Substance is a breath of fresh air.
