I've read this book twice and it always gets me training more. A pragmatic account of various teachers and their teaching and training methods. I'd recommend it as a source of info and inspiration but you won't learn any techniques from it. It's also good because it features different martial systems so you get a bit of knowledge about each.

I read this book some years ago when it first came out, and thought it was excellent. The book is basically a chronicle of Smith's trip to the Orient and his encounters with a number of different masters with descriptions of their methods and ideas. An absorbing personal account with many interesting anecdotes and stories. It is not a picture book, but more of a personal memoir.
