This is a book every Delphi-programmer should own. Within its scope it makes API simple and easy to use. If a beginner gets hold of it there is a great risk that she is led to believe, that API-programming is a mere nothing, easier than Delphi-programming!
Now you may ask yourself why you should take this high recommendation seriously. Well, I wrote my first program in september 1954 for one of the building-sized computers we then had, and I have been at it more or less ever since. I started trying to use API when it first became available, and there are only three words for that experience: blood, sweat and tears! So I think I fill the specifications for "an experienced programmer", at least in number of years.
You may think you should get a subscription to the MSDN library instead. You should do that, but you should buy this book at the same time. They complement each other. It took me years to feel reasonably confident in the presence of an API function and looking back on those years, they were truly a walk in the desert! With this book you avoid that walk.

This book helps to fill in the missing information from the Delphi on line help. I'm particularly interested in the GDI stuff and I find that the methods etc are well enough explained from a Delphi point of view to be useful. Although the title says Windows 2000, it is still applicable to the win32 Windows XP.
