Product Description

Synopsis

No-one knows what the grave robbers were looking for when they violated the grave of Connor Hawthorne's recently deceased grandmother. Whatever it was, they didn't find it, but they died trying. Two corpses and a casket full of stones are all that Connor has to go on as she leaves her home in Santa Fe for the mystical English setting of Glastonbury. But Connor, an ex-lawyer turned crime novelist who is no stranger to mystery and danger, is scant prepared for the family secrets that come tumbling out of the past and threaten to engulf not only her, but everyone she loves. From modern England to the mists of ancient Avalon, WITCHFIRE weaves a thoroughly contemporary tale of murder and danger tied to an ancient and powerful secret. Connor will have to face her ultimate enemy, and the outcome will require more than just gunplay. As she did in Deceptions, Lauren Maddison once again blends thriller fiction with mythology and lets it build to a heart-pounding conclusion.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping read to take you through the witching hour, 26 May 2004
By A Customer
Witchfire is the Second Connor Hawthorne Mystery, but my first experience of these characters. I was very excited to find that not only could I buy good quality Lesbian fiction, but I was able to buy Lesbian fiction in my other favourite genre, crime/thriller/mystery. I could not put this book down, it is an excellent blend of mythology, English folklore and mystery. Lauren Maddison keeps you gripped with a storyline which revolves around Connor's spiritual inheritance and also continues to develop the relationship between Connor and Laura from the first novel, Deceptions. The relationship that she portrays is a positive image and at the risk of sounding corny, together Connor and Laura are able to overcome the obstacles that they encounter. For us English readers it also moves beyond the spiritual world of the Navajo reservation into the English countryside and that favourite of all Legends, Avalon. Lauren Maddison uses land marks that are familiar and her research of their history and their spiritual relevance is incredible, making this story all too believable. Your favourite supporting characters are also very much in evidence, Connor's Dad the Senator and our favourite DC Cop, Malcolm, along with a new cast of characters which if you are as hooked to this growing series of novels as I am, become pillars of spirtual advice for Connor and Laura. Maddison has been able to make Arthurian folklore relevant to todays reader with her stylish blend of intrigue and crime, and of course just a little bit of magic.
