Amazon.co.uk Review

This fantastic book is an absolute must for all first-time pregnant mums (and dads) as it gives you a complete picture of your pregnancy from start to finish. It is a comprehensive guide to everything that your body and your baby goes through during each week of pregnancy.

The book of course begins with what to look out for and consider when preparing for pregnancy, from health conditions to exercise and nutrition--it even deals with what the older woman should consider.

Then follows, just as the title suggests, a guide to your pregnancy week by week. Each week or chapter concentrates on the size of your growing baby, the size of you (!), changes and developments in your baby and changes that you would experience at each stage. It also concentrates on how your actions can affect your baby's development and gives you a handy tip for each step of the way.

The book gives you a focus for each stage of the pregnancy and is incredibly enjoyable to read. You come out at the end of the 40 weeks feeling well informed and prepared as it gives consideration to your worries and fears and physical state appropriate to each stage of your pregnancy. It is particularly fun to read how large your baby is at each stage--often compared to various fruit!--and what you can expect to feel at each stage. The book gives you a kind of connection with the little life that is growing inside of you. --Helen Humphrey, Editor, UKparents online --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great weekly guide to pregnancy, 10 Jul 2004
By S. Ficken (London) - See all my reviews

This is a great book, there's plenty to read for each week and plenty of information to dip into elsewhere. Also it's not as "doom and gloom" as many other books, which I think go on far too much about the things that can go wrong. Although it's important to know the signs of miscarriage etc, I feel some books mention the things that could go wrong far too often, whereas this book is much more positive and allows you to get excited about what's happening inside you. It's also a good book to show snippets to your partner (it even has "dad tips", such as buy your partner a present - what a great idea!)

I do think that you would need another book in addition to this one (some things you would want more detail on), but I love this book and enjoy dipping into it much more than my other books.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Pregnancy Book of the 5 we used., 2 April 2008
By Steven R. McEvoy "MCWPP" (Canada) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
The greatest strength of this book is the week-by-week format. It outlines specific changes that are pretty close to exactly as predicted. We noticed many of the things and then read them that week, ie. phlegmyness, inability to travel more than an hour and dryness at night just to name a few. This book is very well balanced and it tends to focuses more on the positives of pregnancy and not the possible complications. This is the 5th Edition of this book with millions of copies sold. Overall it is a great help. I definitely recommend it to all expectant couples. These authors also wrote a number of supporting or complimentary books:

Your Pregnancy After 35

4.0 out of 5 stars A useful accompaniment to your pregancy, 5 Aug 2009
By i wrote this "i did" (Bucks) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
My wife and I have found this book extremely informative and useful - particularly in the early weeks where there were few outward sides of pregnancy. It was great to find out what was going on with our baby. Each week has its own chapter relating to that particular week of pregnancy and covers:

How big is your baby (weight and length)

How big are you? (how big the uterus is and how much weight you will have gained)

How your baby is growing and developing (our favourite part!)

Changes in you (eg the corresponding symptoms for that stage in your pregnancy - swelling, varicose veins etc!)

How your actions affect your baby's development (sleeping positions, things to avoid etc)

Your nutrition

Things you should know

In each chapter there is information about various things that do not necessarily apply to you - e.g. multiple births, certain medical conditions - I found these bits interesting but perhaps they would have been better in an appendix.
