This is an interesting and comprehensive look at some of the processes involved in body-orientated therapy, from a Gestalt perspective. The book is clearly written and accessible, and I found it a pleasure to read. Part one covers some of the basic principles underpinning the approach (embodiment, integration of body and self, resistance, ethical and clinical considerations of the use of touch, etc.)

Part two uses the Gestalt cycle of experience to very good effect, grounding the cycle in a comprehensive exploration of body phenomena. This focus on body phenomena brought the cycle to life for me in a way which other books might not have. Kepner writes about interruptions to the cycle, and provides suggestive and informative case studies which illustrate the body-orientated approach in action. There is also an interesting appendix comparing Reichian and Gestalt therapies.

I would recommend this book to someone who already has some knowledge of Gestalt. However, I think it would also make an excellent introduction to a body-orientated approach in general.
