Dave Meltzer is the man behind the Wrestling Observer Newsletter - the most respected wrestling publication in the English language - and this book is a collection of some of the tributes he has written over the years. Legendary names like Andre the Giant, Owen Hart, Bruiser Brody and Giant Baba are celebrated in this excellent book.

The Observer is famous for being content orientated - text, text and more text - but this book is glossy and attractive. The photographs are of a high standard and add an extra dimension to the articles.

This is, in short, one of the best books ever written about pro wrestling (on a par with Mick Foley's) and should appeal equally to hardened fans and those who watch it casually but would like to learn a bit more about it.

When I bought 'Tributes', I had assumed that it would be detailed yet cold biographies of 20 wrestlers. What I recieved was a touching insight into the lives and careers of 20 people. Not wrestlers.Not performers.Not even sports entertainers but real people with families, many of whom were all too often destroyed by there father/son/husband. A heartfelt work of genius from Meltzer.

The writing was great, the pictures were excellent and the selection of wrestlers was okay.
BUT, if you read the dirtsheets chances are that you already know everything that the book reveals. So for me the book was a kind of "been there, done that" experience.
Buy it for a collectors item or if you know little about the wrestlers in the book.
