3.0 out of 5 stars A lesson in Québecoise/Canadian Politics ?, 4 Oct 1999

This was the first English biography on Céline that I read, and was my favourite until the "Authorised" biography and the newer Lisa Peter's book. My criticisms of this book are that the author dwells too much on the Canadian/Quebec political history. The author uses Céline as a symbol for national unity and hence confuses her career with a history lesson. I must admit, I was quite interested in the history of Québec at the start of the book, but after a few chapters it turned into a history lesson and I just wanted to learn about Céline's personal history. Nonetheless a good read which I enjoyed from start to finish, even though it was like a chore to read and when I finished it I wanted to hide it. Maybe my being from Northern Ireland and hating politics has a lot to do with my slightly harsh review of this book.
