This book is an excellent introduction to standards based web design. Written in a very accessible manner Murphy and Persson walk you through creating well structured XHTML pages then show you how to style them using CSS. With a dedicated website to help you along you can't go wrong.

As a designer I have always left the programing of my client sites up to someone who knows how, thinking it was way beyond me. This book has shown me just how easy it actually is to programme them yourself and what's more I don't have to buy any expensive software get me started!

I reckon this will quickly become a university standard introduction to web design and the first port of call for any aspiring designer. Well done guys!

I found this book extremely helpful and well written. Each chapter was well laid out and easy to work through. There was great attention to detail, with easy to follow examples and the accompanying website, with it's reference pages was a very welcome addition! This alone surpassed other books I'd read on the subject. I have in the past read numerous books on HTML & CSS and found them overly technical and pretty confusing and found myself not getting anywhere. I've now designed my first two column website and am looking to progress.

This book is an ideal launching pad for web designers. It teaches the importance of adhering to web standards and making your web pages accessible to as wide an audience as possible. There is also a useful section at the end of the book, which gives valuable tips on how to take the next steps in your career as a designer. A highly recommended purchase!

This is a great book for not only beginners but experienced web designers. It is very well written and is really easy to follow. Although I have worked with CSS before I am still quite new to it and this book gave me a better understanding of how to use it correctly and efficiently. The sections of extra support guided me towards some things I'd never heard of or really thought about before.

All in all definitely worth a purchase!!
