5.0 out of 5 stars a country house farce, 15 May 2005
This review is from: The Eagle's Shadow (Paperback)
One of the contemporary (early 20th century) novels of the Biography of Manuel concerning the admirers of Margaret Hugonin, a young heiress of Lichfield, Virginia.
Here we first meet the delightful Felix Kennaston, and many others who appear in the other 'contemporary' novels of the Biography. These are so full of shared characters and ripe opinions that I'll have to re-read them all many more times to get the half of it.
This is a country house farce of the P.G.Wodehouse sort, but less funny and more deep. It revolves around the difficulties given to romance under the shadow of a great inheritance.
The heroine caused scandal at the time because she is rude, self centered and not at all lady like.
There is also a nice review of the Biography by Edwin Bjorkman, 1923.
