4.0 out of 5 stars A beautifully produced, thought provoking prequel..., 27 Nov 2005

Despite Viz's reputation for superior graphic novel publication this is a pure text novel. It's the story of Batou's experiences leading up to the events depicted in 'GITS-2:Innocence' and as such is an interesting addition to the GITS universe. The internal physical and mental features of Batou's gynoid body and e-brain a dealt with quite successfully (entirely from his first person perspective) and the relationship between Batou and his Bassett Hound Gabriel (Gabu) ceases to be purely whimsical and becomes far more profound and interesting. If you're after 'Action/Adventure' then leave this be because it's deeper and intrinsically Japanese in its approach to the subject matter (good). There are several rather nice illustrations within the book and the quality of binding and paper is excellent. Be sure to take a good look at the actual front cover of the book (rather than the dust jacket) because it shows great style and attention to detail. If you enjoy GITS then this is recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Sound Of Silence, 2 Aug 2007

There is little I can add to others reviews, other than it's brilliant. I am a huge fan of GITS and this books is so well written.

The only other thing is something I noticed, as a Paul Simon fan. I think Masaki Yamada is also a fan as each chapter title refers to a line from the Simon & Garfunkel song The Sound Of Silence. If you have the book google the lyrics.
