Product Description

Book Description

This Side of the Gate is a novel based on the theory of reincarnation, the uninterrupted flow of consciousness from one life to the next. The underlying theme holds that One Life pervades the universe, that the purpose of life is the unfoldment of consciousness, which in the human sphere is achieved through cyclic manifestation, commonly referred to as reincarnation. Each of the book’s 32 lifetimes reveals a different character, and each character, while entirely unique, represents an incarnation of one man’s eternal soul, who narrates the tale from its own unique point of view. The story begins 12,000 years ago on the lost continent of Atlantis and includes incarnations in Egypt, Africa, Asia, Athens, Rome, the Middle East, and 19th century Europe. The first few chapters contain newly revealed information about Atlantean society, including the role the Atlanteans played in the construction of the Great Pyramid. The main characters include teachers and students,!
monks and warriors, scoundrels and saints. This particular soul’s journey demonstrates how karma is created, both good and bad, and how that karma shapes future lifetimes. Each chapter can be read separately; however, they really should be read consecutively so that the connection between the various lifetimes is not lost. Those connections are sometimes explicit; however, many of them are embedded and therefore subtle. Many of the stories include historical information, some of which contradicts accepted theory, while others contain psychological and spiritual insight, such as how to meditate upon the light of the soul. Life’s inherent struggle and the inevitability of death are essential themes, and each chapter ends with the death of the main character. Death is presented as a transition to another realm of consciousness, and many of the chapters include information about the nature of life beyond the grave. For example, the soul who narrates the tale reveals what awaits!
those who have lived decent lives, as well as what’s in store for those who have lost their way, having succumbed to the lower passions. Death is a mystery to most of us, and This Side of the Gate offers a paradigm based on extensive metaphysical research, personal experience, and the fruits of advanced meditation. Many of the characters are derived from dreams, meditations, and waking visions that I have experienced over the course of my life; however, they also reflect years of research, as well as material gleaned from daily life. This Side of the Gate addresses life’s most difficult challenges in a way that capitalizes on society’s struggle to merge faith and belief with common sense and rational analysis. From a purely entertainment point of view This Side of the Gate is a great adventure; however, it’s also a guide to better understanding, shedding light on the past while expanding the limits of the creative imagination, ultimately encouraging the reader to embrace the unique quality of the human soul.

We live in a time where many of us yearn for a sense of wholeness, for peace and brotherhood, for a way out of the world’s seemingly chaotic tailspin. This Side of the Gate presents a fresh perspective as well as a wealth of information to readers who are seeking a better understanding of the world in which they live. The characters are real and many readers will feel the emotional impact and easily identify with the issues and concerns raised in each of its 32 chapters. This book not only speaks to contemporary society, but awakens karmic memories stored in the subconscious mind, integrating the reader into a wider expanse of time. Beyond that, when contemplated and practiced in daily life, the book’s spiritual concepts and practical techniques are intended to help reorganize the subconscious mind while summoning impressions and ideas from the realm of the soul.

This Side of the Gate depicts the epic battle between good and evil, which when understood is really nothing more than the battle between the personality and the soul. It therefore resonates with the soul of humanity, touching the world of the personality with graphic images and clear, concise portrayals of the human drama.

From the Author

Writing for me is not just a form of expression, but a journey of self-discovery. While writing I am aware of the fact that I am very passionate about sharing my ideas, all those wonderful impressions that arrive from the depths of consciousness. However, I am also aware of the fact that frequently those revelations only reluctantly emerge into the light of day, demanding a birthing process that sometimes requires careful thought, additional research, and quiet meditation. Consequently, I find that writing stimulates and develops the connection that exists between spirit, mind, and body, a process that never fails to both clarify and refine the very core of my identity.

When it’s all said and done, we are all searching for meaning and purpose in our lives. And every life has meaning, regardless of the circumstances. We all share the same journey – the journey of self-discovery, and that journey takes us through many, many lifetimes. For me self-discovery is all about relationship. And the most important relationship, the one that determines the nature of all other relationships, is the one we have with ourselves. Typically we have a series of disconnected relationships, one with our environment, one with our friends, another with family members, and yet another with our God. That arrangement creates a lot of stress, because each relationship demands some form of adaptation; however, when we have fully integrated our personalities, not just within the context of the present life, but within the context of our past lives, then we are able to free ourselves from some of that external control because we are no longer limited by time, but fully integrated into time, and therefore well on our way to becoming fully aware of who we really are. We have no choice but to inhabit time; however, when we comprehend the timeless nature of our inner being, that unbroken thread of consciousness expressing itself one life to the next, we are no longer confined by time, nor are we defined by it.

As a writer my goal is to awaken the soul of humanity. Life after death! Reincarnation! These concepts need to be explored, and ultimately embraced by the public. We need to realize, both individually and collectively, that each and every one of us has inhabited the body of every racial form, and that each and every one of us has incarnated time and again into many cultures and many religions. This is how consciousness evolves, through cyclic manifestation, learning and growing through diversity. I want my readers to understand that death is not what it seems, that it is neither a terrible loss, nor a horrible tragedy; that we simply transition to another realm of existence, only to once again return with a new and better plan. Beyond that I’d be very pleased to learn that at least some of my readers are benefiting from the method of advanced meditation revealed in my book, that they are tapping into their own Divine Inner Presence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable Lessons!!, 24 Jun 2006

This is a must-read for anyone captivated with the theory of reincarnation.
The author takes us on a fascinating and profound spiritual journey via his previous incarnations which in turn trigger our own. I recognized myself in many of the author's situations, scenes etc. It was rather uncanny..(the familiarity of the oneness.)
This book contains invaluable lessons as together with the author we flow in and toward all that is. The One!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Spiritual Books Ever Written, 11 Mar 2006
This book is right up there with Autobiography of a Yogi in terms of Great Spiritual literature. It is categorised as Nonfiction but is infact semi-autobiographical. While writing about his past lives, Johnston manages to incorporate innumerable spiritual teachings and truths below the surface. This book will certainly withstand multiple readings over the years, and I can assure you that anyone who read it multiple times will get something new from it every time.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Side of the Gate, 8 Oct 2007
By Tami Brady "Whole Health Therapist" (Calgary, Canada) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This Side of the Gate is a story with a really innovative concept. The entire book is made up with short stories each detailing the life of a particular individual. In each of these pieces, the reader learns a little about the character of that person, some of his most defining moments, what he has learned from these experiences, and the karmic debt he has accumulated. The tie together of these chapters is that these lives are the reincarnations of one single spiritual entity and the book follows his existences from his life in Atlantis where he seeks spirituality to his life as a major in the Crimean War. His experiences in these thirty-two different lives varies dramatically from an individual seeking spiritual knowledge to another seeking only monetary gain and from the ultimate pacifist to the killing machine.

I loved the idea of tracing an entity's lessons and common patterns through analysis of each life and through the process as a whole. I thought it was a particularly good touch that the reincarnation pattern was not evolution-like so the individual tended to learn a lesson in one life and then fall back into the same destructive pattern in another experience.
