"Romancing the Alien" comprises of the first 2 stories in SM's "Talking Dogs" series.

Talking Dogs, Aliens and Purple People Eaters
Space explorer Hinekiri "Jones" wants to visit Earth to watch the migration of wildebeest; however her niece Janaya "Smith", an Imperial Guard would rather protect her from the Torgans intent on obtaining her aunt's space charts and journals by force.

Crash landing on Earth (specifically New Zealand), Janaya finds herself busy dealing with a smart mouthed talking dog obsessed with food, her new superpowers, an aunt with a mercenary contract out on her, the local brigade of UFO hunters, a clearly visible space craft despite its emergency camouflage button and purple Torgans. Unfortunately after forgetting to take her inoculations, she's also only gone and bonded with an Earthman, the local law enforcer Luke Morgan.

All Janaya wants is to return to Dalcon to take her captains exam before she's declared AWOL while Luke wants to escape the mess of an extremely nasty and very public divorce. Yet whilst dealing with the turmoil the arrival of extraterrestrials creates and quietly trying to repair an alien space craft, they unexpectedly find themselves falling in love.

Never Send a Dog to Do a Woman's Job
Prince Alexandre Bellangere of Dalcon is in disguise. Determined to realise his dream of establishing Bellangere Grand Tours; he alters his appearance to that of a darkly ugly man and flees his life as a palace sex slave. Heading to Earth with a letter of introduction from Luke and Janaya Morgan, Alex intends to only pick the brain of travel agent Lily (Luke's sister) however that quickly flies out the window when he meets her in person.

Unaffected by his spell of disguise, Lily (and all human women) see Alex in his true form, a wonderfully golden handsome man. With little self worth left after her husband ran off with his boyfriend, Lily cannot understand why Alex is attracted to her; Alex in turn cannot understand why Lily values herself so cheaply.

Spending time together, Alex finds himself bonding with Lily despite his inoculations. Not only does he now need to explain Dalcon's strange mating ritual to his hopefully wife-to-be; he has to avoid the royal guards intent on returning him home, deal with a talking dog set on guarding Lily's virtue and carefully explain to Janaya and Luke why he failed to follow the strictly hands off rules concerning Lily.

"Romancing the Alien" contains a pair of quirky, amusing and explicitly hot fantasy romances. There is plenty to make you smile, including Janaya's attempts at colloquial speech, her effort to temper her out of control powers of super strength, flight and laser firing eyeballs, Killer (nee Annie) the talking dog and the budding relationship between Richard Morgan (Luke and Lily's father) and the sassy Hinekiri. In fact the next story in this series delves further into their relationship; however at this stage "Romantic Interludes" is currently unavailable in print.
