Product Description

Synopsis

If you think that making a guitar is impossible, then this book is for you. The only one of its' kind, this book will teach you how to make a laminated archtop guitar. It can be done in a relatively small space and does not require many tools or expensive machinery, just a desire to do it. The book came about as the result of a suggestion and urging of my friend, Bob Benedetto. Because no other book is available for this type on construction, it is written in an easy to understand format and is priced so that almost anyone can afford it. It contains drawings and pictures with step by step easy to follow instructions so as to eliminate any guesswork. This book took four years to complete and is designed to help someone who wants to make this kind of guitar. It should serve as an excellent guide.

3.0 out of 5 stars Making laminated Guitars, 18 Aug 2008
By M. F. Webb (Lincoln UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was drawn to buying this book from my love of Chet Atkins and his music. Jim English made a guitar for Chet Atkins which is pictured in Chet's biography, "Me and My Guitars", and he is quite complimentary about it. It is one of the best looking guitars I have seen.

This book describes in some detail how Jim English makes his laminated archtop guitars with dimensioned drawings of specific parts and the jigs he uses. Drawings are included of his tail and head blocks, his neck tenon and locking system, and there are comprehensive chapters on all the aspects of guitar-making.

The text is excellent, well-presented and easy to follow but some of the black and white photos leave much to be desired.

An excellent and informative book for anyone interested in making guitars; highly recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Making Guitars, 10 April 2009

The book is helpful in a lot of ways in that it is the only one of its kind but, and this is the big but, you would need to know a lot more about making guitars and technics than this book offers. Quite expensive for the info. gained
