Hi, what can I say, as an avide Jilly Cooper fan, I was all excited at getting my hands on another of her books, only to find that it was really Rivals, renamed for an American audience! I was gutted, Rivals/Players is a great book, with the divine RCB making a come back. A must, you really feel that you know "the cast" and they become life long friends, ready to be read and re-read for years. Just don't mistake it for a new story!!

Funny thing. As an American visiting London gosh, in the 80s? I was staying in Chelsea and happened to catch the miniseries for Riders on a pub tv. I was hooked. Bought Riders while there. Imagine my joy when Jilly Cooper's newest book (forgive me newest at the time, alas) came out in the U.S. and this was before Amazon and it was in Borders!!! Here it was called Players. Loved it (to this day it's my favorite of hers) but it wasn't until I went back to England, happened to "need" a copy, bought it there and realized I had been missing part of the story. Players was definitely Americanized... Rivals is basically the same book but is much, much more fun as a read.

Frankly as an American I have to admit I was a bit insulted that publishers didn't think we could "get" the Brit version! I got it, loved it, still love it (though I think her books have gone a bit over the top and I no longer make the effort, when I'm England twice a year or so, to look up her latest and buy it in hardback.

Jilly...go back to your great characters, please!!! And forget the bizarre stuff. IMHO.

I would just like to point out that this is Jilly Cooper's "Rivals", just with a different name!!! More of the same- glam trash with drinking, promiscuity, handsome men and stunning women. Fun and doesn't take itself seriously.
