5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant riproaring pageturning tour de force!!, 30 Nov 2007
This review is from: Old Saint Paul's (Paperback)
W Harrison Ainsworth seems to have been forgotten in comparison to his, gentler or more intellectual contemporaries. But with the current huge market for historical fiction, he surely is worth a major review.

Old St Paul's is probably his best work for the modern reader. It's set in the time of the Plague and the Great Fire of London and paints the picture of a claustrophobic London ridden with fear.

After you have read this - try The Lancashire Witches.
