"An engaging, entertaining and intelligently written book, which will reset the boundaries for gay literature."

5.0 out of 5 stars Reasons To Read '50 Reasons', 21 Jan 2006
By A Customer
This short novel is a must read for all gay men. It follows the history of Mark, as he searches for love and sex. Mark comes into contact with all types and situations as he cruises bars and that most perplexing of cruising mechanisms - the internet.

Nick Alexander has fashioned a novel that is at times moving, (I defy anyone not to relate to at least some of the incidents, emotions and insecurities) and at times laugh out loud funny. (Lets hope none of us ever goes home with the egg man.)

The book is written in episode form with short punchy chapters, (think Maupin's Tales Of The City) and so is perfect for those who want to pick up something for a few minutes to read before they settle down for some pleasant dreams, or for someone who can't put it down and needs to devour it all in one go.

Gay Literature should be as varied and complex as the gay community who read it. There is a place for the dark (Edmund White) the thought provoking (Patrick Gale)and now a new name who is also a recorder of the richness of gay experience - Nick Alexander.

Trust me. Don't let this one be the one that got away.

5.0 out of 5 stars An emotional journey we can all relate to. , 31 Oct 2006
By Mr. B. Gardner "Ben Gardner" (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
50 Reasons is the first of a great series of books that could fast come to rival the likes of Tales of the City. Nick Alexander has an effortless style that really engages the reader and brings the characters to life. He will make you laugh one minute and feel his pain the next but undoubtedly there is a little bit of everyone with each page you turn.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read, 16 Jan 2006
I bought this book with no previous knowledge of it because it appeared in my recommendations list on amazon. I started reading it on a Wednesday evening and found it impossible to put down. I spent the whole of Thursday at work desperate to get home to carry on reading it. I am an avid reader but I haven't felt this excited about a book for years.
It tells the story of Mark and the successes and failures in his social and love life. It is a compelling and amusing read. This book is fiction at its best-beg, steal, borrow or preferably buy it-you won't be disappointed
