2.0 out of 5 stars Blinkered view, 26 April 2009
Being a skydiver myself I find this book extremely biased, in 20 years I have not known of 1 death but this book makes out that it is the most dangerous thing in the world and that all skydivers are lunatics, the safety side of our sport is second to none, I understand the author's need to blame someone for her son's death but I also think she should look at his own part in it as it appears he didn't listen to the instructions he was being given through his headpiece from his instructor, I researched the story and found newspaper reports detailing what actually happened, there was no equipment malfunction but he got into a spin at around 300ft which he couldn't get out of whilst trying to turn to land into the wind, this caused him to have a hard (swing) landing and he suffered head injuries from which he died just over a week later, I agree it is a tragedy and feel for his mother but I don't think it warrants this attack on our sport because that is what this book is, an attack on skydiving/parachuting.
