4.0 out of 5 stars Retirement starts here..., 30 Dec 2008
By P. Courcha (Scotland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
One chapter begins with the sentence "This book is packed with suggestions to challenge and motivate you to change" and thats exactly what it does. Susan Kersley offers simple, easy to follow steps to take us through a complete assessment of what we might want from retirement and how to get it. Chapters have tantalising titles such as Six Essentials and Seven Strategies. We are advised to take time to smell the roses as well as being helped to discover our life purpose. It's a very practical book and has a link to downloadable free resources to help us make a really thorough job of getting ready for retirement. The resources are easy to access and include worksheets and advice on things like how to change habits.

If you need to be kick-started into thinking about retirement in a positive way then this book is full of questions to ask yourself and ideas to try out. I'm already semi retired but found much to think about. As a counsellor I would suggest it to someone who is looking for ideas to help them take action and make the move into retirement.

4.0 out of 5 stars Get ready for retirment, 23 Dec 2008
By J. C. Mushin (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Susan Kersley retired from being a doctor and now practises as a Life Coach. She is experienced in helping people to make life enhancing changes. Retirement is just another such transition. Although many people face retirement with a sense of dread, Susan Kersley is passionate in her belief that retirement can, with a little effort and commitment on our part, bring excitement and an amazing opportunity to reinvent ourselves and have a life after work. Her book is concerned not with suggestions for art classes, bridge or golf - unless that is what you want - but in transforming the way we think about and believe in ourselves. With a sense of humour, a determination to enjoy life, and above all a positive attitude, Susan Kersley guides us through the process of setting goals, making decisions and planning a step by step strategy to a bright and fulfilling future.

On the brink of retirement myself, I found this a challenging and motivating book which will, hopefully, stop me procrastinating further and activate me to do the things I have always dreamt of doing.

This challenging and practical book is ideal for those who are facing retirement with some trepidation.

Whilst acknowledging the loss of a significant part of life - identity, status, structure... it opens the exciting possibilities of the new found freedom. It's range covers issues related to body, mind and spirit in a light and practical way.
