Review

'You'll find yourself laughing one minute and crying the next' (CANDIS )

'This quirky and enjoyable ghost story is Cally Taylor's first novel after finishing as runner-up in Woman's Own's 2006 short story competition. **** (4 stars)' (WOMAN'S OWN )

'Heaven Can Wait is, in all honesty, the best book I have read so far this year. I couldn't put it down, and quite frankly, have never read a book that made me literally laugh and cry all the way through.' (Elle Symonds TRASHIONISTA )

'The story is told with a light touch and buckets of humour. Beware - once you have started it, you will not be able to put it down This novel is a real treat to savour.' (BOOKERSATZ )

'I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and found myself ploughing through it incredibly quickly because I just couldn't put it down It's a great book to read, and one for the cold winter evenings to warm your heart. Brilliant.' (CHICKLIT REVIEWS.COM )

'The only thing I didn't like about it was the fact that it had to end. This is a very strong debut and one that I highly, highly recommend.' (CHICKLITCLUB )

Product Description

'What would I do without you, Lucy Brown?' he said, and kissed me softly. I held his face in my hands and kissed him back. I felt that life just couldn't get any more perfect. And I was right, it wouldn't. By the end of the next day, I'd be dead. Lucy is about to marry the man of her dreams - kind, handsome, funny Dan - when she breaks her neck the night before their wedding. Unable to accept a lifetime's separation from her soulmate, Lucy decides to become a ghost rather than go to heaven and be parted from Dan. But it turns out things aren't quite as easy as that. When Lucy discovers that Limbo is a grotty student-style house in North London she's less than thrilled. Especially after meeting her new flatmates: grumpy, cider-swilling EMO-kid Claire; and Brian, a train-spotter with a Thomas the Tank Engine duvet and a big BO problem. But Lucy has a more major problem on her hands - if she wants to become a ghost and be with Dan she has to complete an almost impossible task. How the hell does a girl like Lucy find a girlfriend for the dorkiest man in England? IT geek Archie's only passions are multi-player computer games and his Grandma. But Lucy only has twenty-one days to find him love. And when she discovers that her so-called friend Anna is determined to make a move on the heart-broken, vulnerable Dan, the pressure is really on...

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic debut novel - Hooked from the beginning, 16 Oct 2009
By Miss Paige (Dundee,Scotland) - See all my reviews
Reading this novel, for me, was like watching someone else's child graduating with full honours. I've followed Cally Taylor's process writing Heaven Can Wait and was very excited about finally getting to read it. I was a little worried about the supernatural content (as I've been disappointed with supernatural content in books before) but my worries were soon unfounded as from the first chapter I was hooked. The supernatural content was handled very well and it's a credit to Taylor's writing style that this is probably the best supernatural chicklit/womens fiction novel I've read.

Right from the beginning, I got sucked into the world of the main character, Lucy. I was able to connect with the character straight away. That for me is a sign that the book is a winner. I saw Lucy's traits in me; daft things she said, using wrong words and making silly mistakes...for a dead character she came across as very real!

I managed to read this book in little under 24 hours. But saying that, I did very little else but read in that time. I couldn't put this book down. Whenever I did put it down, I wanted to pick it up again immediately. I needed to know what happened next.

I laughed. I cried. This book made me feel very grateful for the people I have in my life. For you don't know when an accident could take them away.

All in all, this book is a fantastic read and I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!, 28 Oct 2009
By A Reader (Bournemouth) - See all my reviews
This is a wonderfully entertaining light read, which I whizzed through in no time and now I wish I'd made it last longer. Lovely warm characters, great humour and an intensely satisfying ending. Well done Cally and I can't wait for your next one! Definitely recommend this for chicklit lovers or anyone who likes a book to escape into for a few pleasant hours.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Cracking Read, 24 Oct 2009
By T. Murray (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
From the first page, this book drew me in and as a result, I read it in just two (rather long) sittings. There are so many clever touches and laugh out loud moments that every chapter was a new delight and I couldn't wait to see how Lucy dealt with the challenges she faced. The secondary characters were appealing, too; I cared about what happened to them and was glad that trouble was taken to resolve many of their issues.

I thoroughly recommend this book - it will transport you into Lucy's world and have you rooting for her from the very beginning. Buy it - you won't regret it!
