Product Description

Product Description

The smartly painted exterior of the City Community Faith School hides a disturbing secret. Behind its walls, one thousand girls are forced to labour in the city's laundry, separated from their families and deprived of their freedom. One of these girls is Little Fearless, a courageous spirit who never gives up hope that one day they will be rescued. Unafraid of the punishment she will face, Little Fearless escapes the institute to tell her story to the world. But why does nobody believe she's telling the truth?

4.0 out of 5 stars absorbing and realistic, 24 Nov 2007
By layla (london) - See all my reviews
this book was very realistic in that it discussed true to life present day issues facing us, such as ID cards and the control imposed over a supposed democracy. it documents a future in which anyone who falls short of the governments expectation of them get sent to a 'school'
which is in fact more like a prison in the olden days
the political characters are protrayed much-like the politicians of today, with much 'spin', untruths and ridiculous slogans and principles that are in position to suppress dissent ('good words make history, bad words make misery').
so its good in that its very believable and realistic of the looming future, definately worth the read

5.0 out of 5 stars Fearless, 3 Sep 2007

I adored this book - it really is something special. The story itself is familiar in some ways but also felt unique. Hints of Hans Christian Anderson and Orwell.

Parallels of our own society are evident in Lott's version of dystopia. The terrorist Oroborous whom the Establishment would never declare dead or captured as to do so would rob it of the bogeyman keeping Cityzens afraid. The stupefying of the masses with cheap game shows and endless sports programmes.

Tim Lott writes simply but brilliantly, no flowery or overwrought prose here. Little Fearless and her friends (and enemies) are wonderfully drawn and stick in the mind.

This is one book I won't be donating to Oxfam!

4.0 out of 5 stars An emotional read, 11 Aug 2008
This book is a story of one girls never ending courage.
Set in a 'care home' where the girls are forced to do laundry for the city that thinks they're in safe hands, this book describes he colourful characters who reside there, and the feuds between the girls.
A ruthless boss, and a young girl who really lives up to her name, Fearless. This really is a captivating tale of Courage.
