Jack is so silly he doesn't even know what kind of animal he is. He tries to be a cow, a chicken, a dog, and even a goose, but none seems quite right! But, with a little help from his farmyard friends, Jack discovers what he is - a horse, of course!

About the Author
Holly Surplice has exhibited her work all around the UK and has travelled to many exotic places including the Amazon and the Galapagos Islands to study and draw wild animals. She was the artist-in-residence at Edinburgh Zoo in 2003, has a BA and an MA in Illustration, and teaches part-time at Edinburgh College of Art. She lives in Lilliesleaf in the Scottish Borders.

This book will really make you smile. It has beautifully drawn illustrations by Holly who is a fantastic artist and the story is simple and funny. I first read it at Holly's graduation show at Edinburgh Art College and have been waiting for it to be published ever since. I am amazed that it has taken as long as 4 years for a publisher to realise that this will be a best-seller!!

This book is a brilliant colourful book with a very good story and moral. The best thing is all the various animals, who Surplice is an absolut master of illustrating.

The book introduces a very sweet but somewhat confused horse called Jack who has trouble understanding exactly what he is. The path to recognition is very endearing and our 4-year old absolutely loved it. Even our 6-year old sat through the story with keen interest (which is saying a lot)!
