Product Description

Product Description

Leaving behind her forensic pathology practice in South Carolina, Kay Scarpetta takes up an assignment in New York City, where the NYPD has asked her to examine an injured patient in a psychiatric ward. The handcuffed and chained patient, Oscar Bane, has specifically asked for her, and when she literally has her gloved hands on him, he begins to talk ? and the story he has to tell turns out to be one of the most bizarre she has ever heard. He says his injuries were sustained in the course of a murder ...that he did not commit. Is Bane a criminally insane stalker who has fixed on Scarpetta? Or is his paranoid tale true, and it is he who is being spied on, followed and stalked by the actual killer? The only thing Scarpetta knows for certain is that a woman has been tortured and murdered ? and that more violent deaths will follow...

1.0 out of 5 stars Huge disappointment, 20 Jun 2009
This review is from: Scarpetta (Paperback)
Used to be a Patricia Cornwell and Kay Scarpetta fan but not any more. It was a huge effort going through the first 50 pages and I just gave up. And this is the first time ever I did not complete a book I had started. Enough said.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very boring, 21 April 2009
This review is from: Scarpetta (Hardcover)
The author, Patricia Cornwell, was one of my favorites. I read her books featuring Scarpetta as soon as they came out. They were gripping, full of action and interlinked plots.

This latest book is from a tired Cornwell who has run out of ideas. Its a thin, very slow, boring and unconvincing plot, padded out with mundane and dull detail. By page 190 nothing of substance had happened and I started speed reading in the vain hope of getting to vintage Cornwell. I gave up soon after.

I'm not buying anymore books from Cornwell. She's past her prime.

1.0 out of 5 stars What rubbish, 4 Jan 2009
This review is from: Scarpetta (Hardcover)
The early Scarpetta books were great but her recent novels have been a complete waste of time. The plots and characters are unbelievable and the writing disjointed. I bought this book in the hope that she might have improved, and she has - just a bit - but certainly not enough for me to give her another chance.

2.0 out of 5 stars It could have been a good story...

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read for anyone who enjoys crime/thrillers
It may not be up to the standard of her previous 'scarpetta' books, but it's still a very good read and kept me turning the pages 'til long past my bed time. Read more
