4.0 out of 5 stars Very informative & excellent photography, 7 April 2008
By K. Dennis - See all my reviews

This book provides a wonderful tour around the entire world of olives - not just olive oil! It explains how the fruit is grown, harvested & nurtured in all of the various olive-growing countries. It offers excellent back-ground to how your oil is created. Very informative because it compares the different methods of harvesting/pressing in every country, even down to what part politics may play in the marketing of the finished product.

The photos on every page are stunning. I keep going back to it for more, to revel in the photos and to read up on specifics.

- If you are looking to understand olive oil as a business, this book is very helpful too, because it lists all the key players in the market.

Sometimes I would have wanted a little more detail, especially on Spain, which is the main olive oil nation. Apart from the main Jaen region, it describes the other Spanish oil producing regions very sketchily.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best olive oil guide, 4 Aug 2007
By S. M. Dillon "Emerson fan" (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Highly opinionated, quirky, critical. There is no corner of the olive oil world unexamined by this former barrister. If you heard him being interviewed on BBC Radio 4's The Food Programme you won't be surprised by the spikiness of his prose and the toughness of his judgements. The most interesting, useful and serious modern book on olive oil.
