5.0 out of 5 stars Gets you ready before you leave!, 24 Feb 2005
By A Customer
I've been a fan of these publishers books since I bought their book on the United Kingdom a few years back. Now I see if they publish a book on where I'm going next before I even go. They show you with cut-out illustrations and plenty of pictures what you can expect before you go. Also seeing what kind of food is made locally, where to stay, what souvenirs to purchase and even brief histories of the locations are well worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Venice & Veneto, 2 Oct 2004
By A Customer
I purchased this book before travelling to Lake Garda, Verona and Venice and have to say the content was excellent. The photographs and 3D maps were great and very accurate particularly the maps of Venice. We would have been lost without it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Idiot's Guide to Venice !, 1 Dec 2002
By A Customer
As usual this Eyewitness guide book is easy to follow and a wonderful resource for the first time visitor to Venice.
D K's strengths are always it's marvellous illustrations and this one is a supreme example of this feature. The map of the Grand Canal is worth the price of the book alone ! There is also a very informative section about the buildings of Venice with some very good cross sections illustrating how they were built.
You will need to read this one well before you go as Venice is the most difficult city to navigate your way round.
The history chapter is brief but it gives a good snapshot and should be used in conjunction with The Rough Guide of the same name. Fans will want to read Hugh Honour and possibly some of Donna Leon's books set in this unique city. So much has been written about Venice it's difficult to know where to start so if you are planning a visit and you are looking for an introduction then this is the one for you !
