best TF book around, 3 Nov 2004
WOW! This book is amazing. It really helps you to understand everything about Transfomers, from it origins to the present day. Not only does it follw the tow line but the T.V show and the comics. The book it self is brilliant with excellent presentation and layout. It covers the Generation 1, Generation 2, Beast Wars, Beast Machines, Robots in Disguise, Armarda and Energon. For each of these it give info on the T.V show the toys and the comics, plus maps, character bios and more comics. It may not have all charatcter bios for the energon series (you have to realise that the show only arrived in the UK and the USA early this year, the year being 2004), and it does not have a picture for every toy (the book would massive if it did). Overall this is amust buy for any trasformer fan, novice to expert you will always find something you did not know. And for anybody new to the Transrormers universe it is a perfect starting point. This book definatley deserves 5 stars.

Probably the greatest book ever written., 15 Jul 2004
In years to come this will be seen as the Transformers bible. From the original 1980s cartoon series to the Dreamwave comics, from Generation 1 to Armada, everything any fan, old or new, could wish to know is printed here. You want a cutaway diagram of the inner workings of Optimus Prime? An in-depth plan of the Ark? A look into how the Transformers war began in Cybertron's distant past, and how they came into being in the first place? All that is here, and much, much more.Of course, being written by Simon Furman, it's no real surprise that this book is as good as it is. Frankly, Simon Furman is probably the single greatest expert on Transformers history, having written the vast majority of the UK comic strips, the later (greater) US strips, and much more besides. The man knows his stuff, and here he is given an opportunity to bring all his knowledge to the public domain. Many will dismiss the Transformers as a mere toyline, something which grown adults such as myself should have grown out of long, long ago. My own brother is one such person. To them, I say you should read this book. Transformers were never just a toy, to be played with and forgotten. For a whole generation, raised on the comic books and TV series, they became much more than that. Through the efforts of talented creators, the robots developed personalities and lives, purpose and reason. They came to life. Their story grew and grew, and continues to do so to this very day. This book stands as a testament to that. 'a mere toyline'? I don't think so...

Excellent Transformers What's What and Who's Who!, 26 Oct 2004
Simon Furman has been involved in Transformers from the beginning of the days of the UK Comic and provides a great guide to the Transformers universes, along with some excellent artwork. Very vibrant printing makes this look incredible and it's a good read if you need to know more about the different areas of these amazing Characters. As stated before some of the later series of toys and stories such as Beast Wars and Energon which are popular at the moment could have used a little more information, although DK tend to release these guides every couple of years with a new edition, such as the X-Men ultimate guide which now features X-men Movie info. I found it most useful and interesting to fill in some gaps in my knowledge of the history of The Transformers, a great read I'd recommend to any fan.
