From the Author

A practical guide to a wonderful sport
"There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats". With those words in The Wind in the Willows, Kenneth Grahame summed up the lure of sailing. This book is a practical guide to a wonderful sport, and I hope it also reflects the joy of being afloat.

5.0 out of 5 stars A superb book for the beginner - highly recommended, 25 Sep 2000
By A Customer
Coming back into sailing after many years, we looked for a book to help brush up our skills and chose The Complete Sailing Manual. It has become well thumbed. The book provides detailed information on every type of sailing from small dinghys to larger cruising yachts in a most informative manner. There are lots of diagrams and pictures to illustrate the points being made. It is also written in such a way that you can read it from cover to cover, or dip into it as circumstances dictate. It has been avidly read by all, from aged 10 to aged 78! The author also responded very promptly to email enquiries when we were considering the purchase of a yacht. A book which comes highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars From dinghy sailing to blue water cruising., 5 April 2005
As the title suggests, this truly is complete. Like the majority of people, my only trips on water came from ferries on a channel crossing! Last year I decided that I wanted to try sailing and bought this book to have some sort of knowledge of the suject before turning up for my course. It proved to be very worth while. As a student on a competant crew members course, I found myself getting stuck in with weather forecasting, navigation and general boat skills (skills that were required for day-skippers). This book is pact with a lot of factual information both in, simple to understand writing and informative and colourful pictures and diagrams. Whether you are a dinghy sailor or an aspiring blue water cruiser, this book will help you to broaden your knowledge base on the subject. I am now about to embark on my coastal skippers course and this still remains my only sailing reference manual, I have not completed any shore-based courses as I have not felt it necessary. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wishing to take up sailing as a hobby, sport or pastime. "ventis secundis"

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good book, 26 April 2003
By A Customer
Having recently developed an interest in sailing I wanted to find out the basics and develop an idea of what is involved before taking it any further. This book I have found to be excellent in covering a wide range of information and I feel that I can now approach the subject with some idea of what is involved without having sailed before. I would recomend this book to anyone as an excellent starting point as well as being useful I should imagine for someone involved in the sport already.
