When things go wrong it is not necessarily your fault. Often easier to remedy than initially thought. hold back on pulling up that prized specimen covered in insects or digging up that wilted-beyond-hope plant to consign to the compost heap. This guide will help you understand what went wrong and why and in many cases advise on how to solve the problem. The expertise of the Royal Horticultural Society is beyond doubt. On the brink of celebrating its centenary, the Society has promoted horticultural excellence and training since its inception. Written by experts in layman's terms, all pests and diseases are covered and clearly captioned photographs ensure a correct identification of the problem. Fungus, insect, animal or disease, you will soon discover the problem and the remedy. As every gardener knows, there are some instances when nothing can be done and the plant has to go - but not quite as often as you may think as you will soon discover in this visual and written guide to the topic. Lavishly illustrated and clearly captioned, this is THE definitive guide and a must for every gardener. - Lucy Watson

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful photos to help you identify everything, 18 Jun 2006
By Deb "debmw" (Aylesbury, UK) - See all my reviews
I don't own this book but recently bought a copy for my brother, and would like to get one myself. What struck me when browsing this book, and what impelled me to buy it, was the plethora of excellent, good-sized colour photos to enable the precise identification of every pest and disease. Unfortunately many books on this subject provide instead only line drawings, which don't do the trick in the same way as a good photo.
But this book is not just full of photos - there's plenty of detailed written info too on each problem and which plants it affects, and no doubt (since it's an RHS book and involved Pippa Greenwood) of good quality too, but I didn't have a chance to read through it and assess it.
Another RHS book on the same subject is written by different authors and has few if any photos, relying on b&w line drawings, and this one looks far superior. I only refrain from giving this five stars because I have not had a chance to read it in depth.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful Guide for Gardeners, 5 Oct 2009
By Robert J. Yates "Robert-J" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: RHS Pests and Diseases (Hardcover)
A very useful and authoratative guide to the whole subject of pest and disease control in the garden. It is a pity that rapidly changing legislation makes recommendations for the use of insecticides, fungicides etc so problematical.
