Review

""Set in Africa, this is a fragmented enigma, the story of a school trip gone mysteriously wrong, with not only several students but also a journalist gone missing in a wild, rocky region . . . stylized, sophisticated, and richly atmospheric." "--The Telegraph

THE TELEGRAPH

A fragmented enigma, the story of a schooltrip gone mysteriously wrong ... stylised, sophisticated and richly atmospheric.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping pace and great atmosphere, 1 Sep 2006
Forget 'Picnic at Hanging Rock' - reading RIFT will pull you into a place and a mystery that's even more gripping and atmospheric. The various styles and voices of the story work brilliantly, and should interest both girls and boys. I felt like a Crime Scene Investigator, reading different police reports and searching, with the characters, for scraps of evidence. I don't want to say too much about the plot, because it unfolds so brilliantly without any spoilers. I just let myself be taken into the strange world of Chomlaya and the secrets of archaeology.

Let yourself be taken on a journey with this book. A patchwork story that allows you to piece it together - though I never guessed the outcome and still am not quite sure what happened in that rock, I loved the journey.... the feel of Africa is so real you'll need suncream - and to wipe the gritty red dust from your feet. Fabulous.
