5.0 out of 5 stars Really useful and not at all sensationalist, 12 Jan 2006
By A Customer
I found this book very useful and a very easy read. It's full of fascinating background information and explains the science well. But the main thing is its sensible tone about what the threat is (and its really quite frightening if this thing mutates into a human version)and what we can all do to prepare for it. But becasue the author is the Health editor of a paper like the Observer it's sane, well balanced and not at all exploitative. I found lots of advice on which I am acting to make sure that my family are safe if when the next flu pandemic arrives its a version of this vicious H5N1 bird flu.

5.0 out of 5 stars Balanced and helpful, 14 Mar 2006
This is a difficult concept to explain let alone put into an international context. Yet this book manages to achieve both without treating readers like stupid children. It does show that this is a serious medical and social issue, but it doesn't overhype it and presents practical ways that individuals and families can be prepared.

For those who want to know more about this topical and important issue, it is the best book I have come across and I would highly reccommend it to anyone.
