Product Description

Product Description

One in ten women will develop breast cancer, making it one of the most devastating health problems of our time. However, only a small percentage of women develop the disease as a result of genetic factors. The vast majority of cases - around 90 per cent - are the result of lifestyle factors that are under our control. This groundbreaking book is based on recent research findings, uncovered by specialists at Genesis, the only UK breast cancer charity to specialize in prevention, which show there is a clear connection between breast cancer and diet and exercise. The first part of this book helps readers understand the factors that can lead to the development of breast cancer, and examines in detail why maintaining a healthy weight or losing weight can reduce the risk of breast cancer by as much as 40 per cent. The second section concentrates on diet and features a wealth of delicious recipes, specially created by chef Roy Ackerman, to help you incorporate the diet into your life.

About the Author

Dr Michelle Harvie works for the Genesis breast cancer charity and is the only UK dietician working solely in the field of breast cancer research. Roy Ackermann is a well-known chef and restaurateur.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprising and Fascinating Facts, 19 May 2006
By M. T. Garrod - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book really opens your eyes with some facts that make you think. Fancy the life expectancy of women only matching that of males in a few years, simply becuase of their lifestyles becoming more similar. Also that over 90% of breast cancer cases being lifestyle-affected rather than solely genetic. This book shows that Scientific research dispels a number of popular myths and fads that have developed over the last few years, and gives a really practical guide for what women need to do to help avoid breast cancer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Groundbreaking book , 1 Mar 2007
By S. Hazell (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This groundbreaking book gives a fascinating insight into the factors that can dramatically reduce the risk of both men and women getting breast cancer. Being the only evidence based book on the shelves it is easy to presume that it will be filled with un-helpful facts and figures but for once a book based on research has been published that concentrates on helping the reader.

The book is easy to read and it has fitness advice from Great Britain athlete Diane Modahl and some amazing, easy to prepare recipes by TV chef Silvena Rowe.

It is an essential read to help you kick start changes that you will realise are un-avoidable once you have read the Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Diet Book. It is streets ahead of any other material available and I will be and would recommend this to every woman out there. After all we are all at risk.
